Laura Van Horne

Laura Van Horne was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and moved to Seattle, WA in 1994. She studied at Pratt Fine Art Center, owns Gray Sky Gallery, in the historic Pioneer District, and has participated in a number of group and solo art shows over the past 25 years. Laura is a mixed-media artist who works in encaustic, acrylic, watercolor, ink, resin, paper and textiles. Laura uses mixed media and texture, spending much of her time experimenting with different mediums and surfaces. Her ink and resin pieces are more meditative works and, as a result, they appear organic in nature, resulting in so many different formations—geodes, science experiments, human cells, or orbs.

Geodes Puzzle

Laura enjoys many styles of painting and uses a variety of materials along with different processes of working. Geodes is a result of her love of mixed media. Her abstract ink and resin paintings have evolved from years of experimentation with an elixir of inks, pigment, paints and resin used on a variety of substrates. It’s a meditative process, and from this artistic science experiment comes images resembling geodes, human cells, irises or sea life.
